The Texas Hill Country is a beautiful area in the heart of Texas. It consists of 55 cities and areas and takes up 14,000 square miles of land. The land is made up of rolling and rugged hills (mostly limestone), crystal clear streams, beautiful towering oak and cedar trees.
The Hill Country reaches into two of the major metropolitan areas in central Texas. Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and San Antonio are some of the major cities that are within the area. Some of the smaller cities and towns are: Fredericksburg, Wimberley, Luckenbach, Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, Comfort, and so many others.
Tourism is a huge part of this central Texas area as well. In 2008 The New York Times declared the Hill Country the number one vacation spot in the nation. This makes Texas second to Florida as the most popular retirement state in the U.S.
Popular attractions that make the Hill Country a great vacationing spot are: The Guadalupe River, Schlitterbahn, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Marcos Outlet Mall, wildlife parks and museums, resorts and spas. The beautiful scenery makes vacationing that much more relaxing, taking a walk through some of the most beautiful areas could be the best part of the Texas Hill Country.
